Super Lauwersmeer SLX54
About this yacht
The Super Lauwersmeer SLX54 represents a bold departure from traditional motor yacht design, eliminating the age-old compromise between aft cabin comfort and open cockpit freedom. This 17.05-meter steel-hulled powerboat delivers both configurations in a single vessel, redefining what's possible in a coastal cruiser. Built by a shipyard with over five decades of yacht-building heritage, the SLX54 introduces an innovative BeachDeck concept that brings life aboard closer to the waterline. This expansive platform extends from the transom, creating an intimate connection with the sea rarely found on vessels of this size. Adjacent to it, the BeachLounge serves as an elegant transition space, featuring floor-to-ceiling glass that dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior. Here, a well-appointed galley and comfortable seating area make waterside entertaining effortless, whether you're serving sunset cocktails or preparing dinner with the BeachDeck just steps away. The layout flows vertically through three distinct levels. The central WheelHouse sits five steps above the BeachLounge, offering panoramic views through generous windows. A U-shaped settee provides comfortable seating for guests while maintaining easy conversation with the helmsman at the modern helm station. This space serves equally well for passage-making, casual meals, or evening relaxation. Above, the SunDeck presents multiple configurations for outdoor living. The helm position accommodates a companion on an adjacent bench positioned for face-to-face interaction, while a generous sun pad aft invites lounging. An outdoor galley with refrigeration, fresh water, and barbecue makes al fresco dining a natural choice. A retractable sunshade deploys at the touch of a button when shade is preferred. Below deck, the accommodation comprises two cabins, each with private en-suite facilities. The port cabin features a double berth with dedicated head including rain shower. Forward, the owner's suite centers on a freestanding bed surrounded by abundant natural light from multiple windows. The thoughtful design preserves privacy while maximizing views and brightness. Upon waking, the owner looks through the glass-walled BeachLounge directly to the water beyond—a perspective reminiscent of a waterfront hotel suite. The en-suite bathroom, accessible from both hallway and cabin, includes rain shower, generous vanity, and toilet. Throughout, Super Lauwersmeer's trademark attention to stowage is evident in carefully integrated lockers and drawers. The SLX54's most significant innovation lies beneath the waterline. Developed by Van Oossanen Naval Architects, the Fast Displacement Hull Form Multi Chine (FDHF MC) represents a hybrid approach between traditional displacement and planing designs. This marks the first application of multi-chine technology to a steel yacht of this size, enabling the vessel to reach 15 knots with twin 440hp Yanmar engines—nearly double the speed of conventional displacement motor yachts in this category. This performance addresses a practical concern for cruising couples: maintaining comfortable separation from commercial traffic in confined waters. Where traditional displacement yachts cruise at 8-9 knots, the SLX54's additional speed provides both safety margin and scheduling flexibility. Engine options scale to match individual priorities. Twin 270hp Volvo Penta D4 engines deliver 12-knot capability, while the most efficient configuration—twin 175hp Volvo Penta D4 units—still achieves 10 knots with remarkably low fuel consumption. The shipyard is currently developing hybrid and electric variants for those prioritizing sustainability. With a draft of just 1.20 meters and CE Category B certification for offshore passages up to 200 nautical miles, the Super Lauwersmeer SLX54 accommodates up to 12 guests for day cruising. The combination of steel construction, innovative hull design, and thoughtful accommodation creates a motor yacht that refuses traditional compromises—a vessel equally suited to coastal exploration, entertaining, or extended passages in European waters.
