Contest Yachts
Dutch sailing-yacht builder with the Contest CS range and a heritage dating to 1959.
Contest Yachts is a Dutch yacht builder whose brand history begins in 1959 with founder Ed Conijn. The current website presents a sailing-yacht range including the 42CS, 49CS, 50CS, 56CS, 63CS, 67CS, 72CS and 85CS, as well as a separate motor-yacht section and a Classics archive.
The present Contest range includes the 56CS, while older 55CS references relate to a different generation. The generation matters when comparing layouts and technical details.
Contest describes its history through three generations of yacht-building expertise. The brand chronology also says that Contest yachts have been certified by Lloyd’s Register since 1972 and that the company adopted vacuum resin-injection techniques in 1995. Those milestones provide background to the present range.
Production status, certification, construction, rig and layout differ by model and year, so the chosen Contest should be assessed through its own current specification.
Contest's CS sailing range spans several lengths, from the 42CS to the 85CS, and sits beside separate motor-yacht and Classics sections. The breadth makes the size and generation of a specific boat important to the buyer's assessment.
Sailing plans, crew size, accommodation and deck handling should define the relevant part of the CS range. A yacht for short-handed family cruising will be evaluated differently from a larger yacht carrying more guests, even though both share the Contest name and sailing heritage.
