Layline

An imagined line from which a boat can reach a mark without another tack.

How to sign

Use Dominant 1-hand: imaginary route line. The base or passive hand is Buoy/mark and WIND loci established; boat locus may be held by non-dominant hand. Set mark, WIND, and boat. Start at the boat. Trace one straight diagonal route to the mark on one tack; the line is imaginary, not rope. Hold the straight route at the mark endpoint. Establish a buoy/mark and wind direction. From the boat, trace an imaginary 1-hand diagonal route to the mark on one tack; use a held straight line, not a physical rope.
