LYRA Yachting Agency and Damen Maaskant have launched a refit programme for owners of sportfishing yachts from 24 metres who want to modernise an existing yacht rather than replace it.
The programme joins two distinct roles. LYRA develops the owner's brief, coordinates the scope and represents the owner through assessment, design, shipyard work, acceptance and delivery. Damen Maaskant carries out the agreed technical and shipyard work at its facility in Stellendam, the Netherlands.
The programme is open to sportfishing yachts regardless of brand, age or country of origin, subject to an initial assessment of the vessel, its condition and its suitability for the proposed work.
The Existing Yacht Is the Starting Point
Where the hull and underlying platform remain suitable, a refit can preserve the characteristics the owner values while addressing systems, spaces or equipment that no longer match the way the yacht is used.
Depending on the vessel and the owner's objectives, the scope may include propulsion and engineering systems, electrical and navigation equipment, structural and exterior work, interior redesign, fishing equipment, safety systems and changes intended to improve operational capability. Every modification remains subject to yacht-specific engineering, survey, class, flag, equipment and shipyard requirements.
Rather than treating the refit as a collection of separate technical jobs, LYRA develops the project around the owner's intended use of the yacht and remains the owner's coordination point as the work moves from assessment into execution and handover.
“An owner may already have the right hull, layout and character, even when the yacht's systems or interior no longer fit the way it is used. A refit should begin by identifying what deserves to be kept. Our role is to hold the project to the owner's objectives while Damen Maaskant provides the technical and shipyard capability to carry out the agreed work.”
One Project, Defined Around the Owner
Each project begins with a review of the yacht's documents, condition and intended future use. The parties then define the technical investigations, design work, project scope, budget structure, timing and approval requirements before the final programme is agreed.
LYRA coordinates the owner's decisions and communication throughout the project. Damen Maaskant provides the shipyard environment for technical assessment, drydocking, repair, retrofit, conversion and other work included in the approved scope.
The programme does not prescribe a fixed package. The final work is determined by the yacht's condition, the technical assessment and the owner's priorities.
