How this study is built
LYRA presents the premium and luxury yacht market through one verified selection of models available to an end buyer. The research shows where choice is concentrated, how the entry budget changes with length, which countries and portfolios are most widely represented, and how the modelled ownership budget develops after purchase.
The calculation base is 1,025 current model records in the snapshot dated 17 August 2026. One model card is treated as one unit of represented choice. This supports analysis of the structure of the offer, but it does not replace contract, sales or delivery statistics.
- Price
- The model's listed starting price in euros. It is not a transaction price and may exclude options and taxes.
- LOA
- Overall yacht length, populated for 1,024 of 1,025 models.
- Price per metre
- The model price divided by LOA, used to compare size segments.
- Ownership cost
- A LYRA scenario built on a fixed set of assumptions, not observed owner invoices.
Where choice is concentrated by length
The broadest size band is 15–<20 m: 294 models, or 28.7% of all models with a stated LOA, across 128 represented brands. Below 25 m there are 620 models, equal to 60.5% of the length sample. Beyond 25 m the available choice narrows, while the median listed price and the price per metre rise more rapidly.
Length is stated for 1,024 of the 1,025 models; one model card carries no length and is excluded from every figure in this section.

What a metre of yacht costs
The median listed price per metre across the represented offer is €182,188/m. There is no single universal price per metre: the figure rises from €73,077/m below 15 m to €1,124,966/m at 50 m and over. The outer bands differ by a factor of 15.39.
The horizontal line marks the overall median of €182,188/m. The second view switches the same eight bands to absolute median price.

How many metres of model range each country represents
Aggregate LOA captures both the breadth and the size scale of a country's represented offer. Italy accounts for 15,693 m of combined model length, substantially ahead of every other country portfolio. It is followed by Netherlands at 2,556 m, United Kingdom at 1,805 m, Turkey at 1,531 m, France at 1,230 m.
Aggregate LOA adds the lengths of all represented models from each country. It describes the represented offer, not metres built or delivered.

What ownership costs in year one and over five years
Entry price is the lowest observed positive listed euro price in each class. The median divides the class price series in half and describes its centre more robustly than the mean, which is more sensitive to a small number of exceptionally expensive projects.
| Class | LOA range | Models | Price stated, N | Entry price | Median price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yacht | under 24 m | 597 | 589 | €600,000 | €1.90m |
| Superyacht | 24–<40 m | 269 | 261 | €3.20m | €10.6m |

| Megayacht | over 50 m | 64 | 63 | €29.0m | €72.0m |
The median modelled cost of the first year of ownership is 4.96% of the yacht's base price. The median ratio of the five-year ownership budget to base price is 25.70%.
Ownership is modelled for three classes inside the calculator range: yacht at 15–<24 m, superyacht at 24–<40 m, luxury-class superyacht at 40–50 m inclusive. Megayachts are excluded.
The price classes above and the ownership classes below share three names but not their samples. The price table's smallest class begins below 15 m; the ownership model begins at 15 m, where the calculator's coverage starts.

How charter offsets the ownership budget
A charter programme can reduce the owner's annual cash burden, but it does not repay the purchase price. In the LYRA scenario, modelled use rises with size: 4 weeks for 15–<24 m, 5–6 weeks for 24–<40 m, 7 weeks for 40–50 m inclusive. The median offset covers 47.1%, 86.6%, 98.3% of the complete first-year charter-mode operating budget respectively.

How the technical scale changes with size
Scale changes the practical architecture of ownership. Median fuel capacity rises from 1,200 L below 15 m to 112,500 L above 50 m, while the median recommended crew rises from 0 to 6. For yachts inside the 15–50 m calculator range, the modelled cost of one full tank rises from €3,500 to €96,250 across the published bands.
Tank capacity, the cost of filling that tank once and actual consumption are three different quantities. Only the first two are published here, and neither measures how much fuel a yacht burns in a year.
Each median is taken over the models in its band with a stated fuel capacity — 1,001 of the 1,024 models with a stated length, counted per band below. The top two bands divide at 50 m inclusive rather than below it, so a yacht measuring exactly 50 m sits in the 40–50 m inclusive band here and in the band above it in the size section.
The series spans 1,200 L to 112,500 L, so a linear axis would render the first six bands as slivers.

How owners intend to use a yacht
These lenses translate a technical catalogue into the language of ownership: a first step into yachting, a season of extended travel, a more autonomous expedition, a private residence on the water, or the purposeful character of an explorer. Each one is a rule applied to the catalogue, stated in full below, and none of them replaces marine certification.
The lenses overlap by design: a model can satisfy more than one rule, so the counts do not add to the size of the selection.

Travel and Expedition: what is the difference?
Travel is the broader life-in-motion scenario, covering yachts for extended passages and seasonal cruising between regions. Expedition is the rarer proposition for an owner who prioritises autonomy, range and the ability to plan confidently for remote routes.
Travel is applied to 737 models and Expedition to 111. Every Expedition model also falls within Travel. For a comparison between groups that do not overlap: Travel without Expedition comprises 626 models with a median listed price of €5.12m, against 111 Expedition models with a median listed price of €38.0m — a ratio of 7.4 to 1.
- First yacht
- An approachable starting point for private ownership: a budget from which a buyer can begin a serious search and learn the market. Rule: Positive listed price up to €3.4m, with no length limit.
- Travel
- A yacht for freedom of route, from longer passages between favourite coastlines to an entire season lived in motion. Rule: Sailing yacht, or modelled range over 299 NM.
- Expedition
- A rarer proposition built around autonomy, range and the confidence to plan remote itineraries beyond the familiar marina network. Rule: Range of at least 3,000 NM, or a sailing yacht with a steel or aluminium hull.
- Floating home
- A residence on the water, designed around longer stays, private daily life and a changing view without changing home. Rule: Catalogue tag.
- Explorer
- The character of a yacht conceived for discovery, with the visual language of a capable, long-range platform. Rule: Catalogue tag.
A metre of yacht and a square metre of property
A metre of yacht and a square metre of an exceptional private residence describe two different forms of personal space. For a yacht the measure is linear overall length, together with marine engineering, autonomy and infrastructure; for property it is interior floor area at some of the world's rarest addresses. The references below come from the upper luxury and ultra-luxury segment, not from average prices in premium districts.
